Happy Canada Day 2011

Today is Canada Day and would have been my cousin Brian's 47th birthday and also Princess Diana's 50th birthday.

This year for Dominion Day, (as GJA likes to call it) we are going to attempt to take PJ downtown where GJA's band is playing in the afternoon at a festival. Since we have to leave around one to get there on time, we typically don't do anything special for Canada day.

As is always the case around this time of year (and early April) I think alot about Brian.  Right now I'm filling out my passport application and it reminded me that Brian had spent a year in New Zealand on an orchard.  He sent me these fabulous letters about everything he was experiencing - how cold it was in his little-wee shack on the farm, how he had to order bread (and other things) a week in advance at the shop (fairly isolated place he was in), having his glasses fall off the 1st time he stood in the ocean...and, being that he's as blind as I am...couldn't find them (and the trouble to get a new pair!!).  He had very teeny, tiny handwriting so there was always tons to read - he used up any available space on the paper to put more of his stories on (even the envelope).

Years and years and years ago I threw those letters out...and I really REALLY wish I had kept them.  Who knew that I'd actually care about them....I was so stupid to throw those out.  (don't tell GJA....it'll give him more ammunition to keep hoarding crap).

I miss you Brian - Happy Birthday!  Quit laughing and rolling your eyes at me and send me some help, ok?!
