Royal Visit - July 5, 2011 - Whitehorse, NWT

When they arrived in Whitehorse, it was raining.

The next morning, they were lucky it wasn't still raining.  They went to the legislature, saw some local native performances and did a walk-about.  Total different scenery than they saw on their other stops.

Prince William did a short speech (from CTV website):

In a brief speech, William thanked "all of you who have travelled great distances to join us today. Catherine and I are deeply honoured."

"It's great to be north of 60," he said, against the backdrop of Yellowknife's Frame Lake.

"This place is what Canada is all about -- vast, open beauty, tough, resilient, friendly peoples, true nature, true humanity."

William capped off his speech with a thank you in Dene and Inuvialuktun, which drew cheers.

They showed his speech on the news and when he spoke in the native languages, the crowd roared and he blushed and did his impersonation of Princess Diana (tipping his head down and sheepishly looking up whilst turning pink).

Kate had on a beige dress - I think its my least favorite of this tour so far.

Here's a shot I thought was cute - her shoes VS a performer's moccasins.

THEN - they stopped to play some shinny hockey.  HA HA...ok, William did - how could she in those stilettos?!

Later on in the day, they took a small plane to a more northern lake (Blachford Lake) to visit with forest rangers.  They canoed on the lake and stopped and taken to a tee pee and helped tan hide and watch native elders do various things and have lunch (or maybe it was dinner).

Look how skinny this girl is...and she's almost 30 - wow.

July 6 was to be a day off for the royals...and they were going to spend the day in an unknown place.  But now, they've decided to go and visit Slave Lake Alberta (where the town was all but destroyed by a forest fire the middle of May).  They weren't expected to be in Calgary until July 7, but will be early this afternoon - I hope they are able to whisk them to Banff or somewhere else in the Rocky Mountains.
